Clemente Nascimento reveals details of serious health problem and recovery

The musician suffered an aortic dissection and spent 21 days in the ICU

Clemente Nascimento , vocalist and guitarist of the historic Brazilian punk bands Inocentes and Plebe Rude , spoke about the serious health problem he faced at the end of 2025 and how his recovery has been going.

KazaGastão channel , the musician revealed all the details of the medical scare that almost cost him his life.

Clemente suffered an aortic dissection, a condition in which the body's main artery ruptures internally, requiring immediate surgical intervention. Luckily, he was quickly attended to in Campo Grande (MS) and taken to Santa Casa, where he underwent a complex operation involving the replacement of the aorta with a prosthesis, a procedure that, according to Clemente, saved his life.

“I stepped into the dressing room and felt a terrible pain. I had never felt anything like it. The doctors suspected a heart attack. They said, 'Man, it must be a heart attack,' and gave me medication for that. But the real diagnosis was aortic dissection; if you wait too long, it sucks. It happens right away,” he reported [transcription via Whiplash ].

The operation was complex and involved placing a prosthesis in place of the aorta . “The doctor who operated on me told my daughter: 90% don't even make it to the operating table, and 90% don't leave the operating table. This guy saved me. Today I have a little tube inside me, replacing the aorta,” she said.

Clemente is recovering well and plans to return to the stage

During his recovery, the musician spent 21 days in the ICU facing complications, in addition to losing about 10 kg and experiencing voice problems due to the tubes used in his treatment. “I had pancreatitis, a distended abdomen, a lot of problems. I was in really bad shape. I wouldn't recommend the ICU to anyone. It's extremely serious. I could have died too,” he said.

Despite the scare, the musician plans a gradual return to the stage. “My voice was ruined, but it’s temporary. It’s already coming back. The cardiologist said: ‘you can play now’. I’ll play some songs in their entirety, others I’ll just play guitar to give it a rest.”.

Clemente also took the opportunity to express his gratitude for the support he received, highlighting the care provided by the Unified Health System (SUS) and the affection shown by his fans, who mobilized on social media while he was hospitalized.

"It was all through the SUS (Brazilian public healthcare system). And some people complain, right? If it were in the United States, I'd be screwed. I want to thank everyone who prayed, who created this chain of support. I'm fine, thank God. No lasting effects. Now it's about not letting my guard down and taking care of my health. I hope to stay here for a few more years. There's still a lot of music to make."
