One of the founders of Titãs , Ciro Pessoa , passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, the 5th, after contracting the coronavirus during treatment for the cancer he was battling. The musician was 62 years old.

The news was shared by bassist Branco Mello , who wrote on his Instagram , “I am deeply saddened by the passing of my brother, musician, poet and first great partner, Ciro Pessoa. It was his idea to bring together composer friends in the early 80s to form a rock band. And that's how Titãs was formed. Rest in peace, dear Ciro.”

Pessoa's ex-wife, Isabela Johansen , also wrote on her social media about the sad news, and confirmed the cause of her ex-husband's death: “It is with sadness and eternal love that I come here to say that my ex-husband, Ciro Pessoa, father of my beloved daughter and stepson, has passed away. He was battling cancer and, in his comings and goings to the hospital, ended up contracting Covid-19. He was hospitalized, but unfortunately did not survive.”

Pessoa was one of the co-authors of one of the greatest classics of Titãs, and perhaps of Brazilian rock, the song "Sonífera Ilha".

Wikimetal its condolences to the musician's friends and family. Rest in peace, Ciro.
