Cigar Box Band releases debut album 'Don't Belong'

The album is released by the French record label M&O Music

Cigar Box Band Don't Belong on February 16th through the French label M&O Music.

The trio combines different elements and creates a unique and visceral fusion of blues, country, and hard rock, and as a distinguishing feature, uses the emblematic instrument called the cigar box guitar, a not-too-distant ancestor of the electric guitar.

As stated in a press release, three types of cigar box guitars were used on the album, “Each with different characteristics and tuning, in addition to a conventional electric guitar. The model that stands out most in the arsenal is the cigar box guitar built with a paddle. The instrument produces a brutal distortion capable of creating seismic sound waves and can be appreciated in the 'Be Mine' music video.”

Guitarist Fred Chamone commented on the album: “The composition and recording process was quite intuitive and collaborative. First, the riffs and harmonic structures I created blended with the melodic parts and autobiographical lyrics composed by Germano Renan [vocals]. In the studio, the songs took shape, often through improvisation, following the blues tradition. Paulo Espinha [drums] versatility and rhythmic precision were fundamental ingredients in achieving what we wanted. And we also had the privilege of having two great musicians participate: Eduardo Sanna on harmonica and Luciano Porto on bass.”
