Young singer Ciça Moreira , a promising talent in Brazilian rock, recently released a version of "Camila, Camila," a classic by Nenhum de Nós , updating the song's message against domestic violence for new generations.
At the age of 16, the artist chose to create her own interpretation of the 1980s classic as a way to raise awareness about violence against women, one of the many facets of sexism that continues to victimize women around the world.
“I hope to inspire others to take action to end domestic violence against women. This includes educating ourselves and others on the subject. We must work together to promote women’s rights and well-being and create a world where all women are free from violence and discrimination,” Ciça commented in a statement released to the press.
In this version, the song's message is even more powerfully conveyed through Ciça's interpretation. Masterfully alternating between the lower and higher registers of her impressive voice for such a young age, the singer imbues the chorus with an energy that only a woman could possess when shouting for herself and her peers.
Ciça Moreira's version of "Camila, Camila" is available on all music platforms and will have a music video released on the 8th.
March, when International Women's Day is celebrated.
