Chrissie Hynde , vocalist of the legendary band The Pretenders , releases her third solo album. Standing in the Doorway – Chrissie Hynde sings Bob Dylan Bob Dylan 's catalog , who turns 80 on May 24th.
The songs were created remotely, during quarantine, by Chrisse and James Walbourne , a guitarist and music producer who is the artist's partner in The Pretenders. The process took place almost entirely through messaging apps.
“We were already a few weeks into lockdown last year when James sent me 'Murder Most Foul,' Dylan's new track. Listening to that song changed everything for me, it pulled me out of the heavy mood I was in. I remember where I was the day Kennedy was shot and I picked up on every single reference in the song. It's amazing how in everything Bob does, he manages to make you smile, makes you laugh at some point. I feel like he's almost a comedian, with a sharp wit and always something to say. Right away I called James and said, 'Let's do some Dylan covers,' and that's what started it all,” Chrissie said in a statement released to the press.
Standing in the Doorway features lesser-known Dylan songs with a Hynde touch. The album comes with a film featuring performances of all the songs, which will be available in its entirety on the 24th.
