In an interview with journalist Joel Gausten, former Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland recalled the year 1986, when the band released "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?". According to the guitarist, despite his pride in the work done, Poland suffered when he heard Metallica's "Master of Puppets," released in the same year
"I really enjoyed all the songs, it was a very strong album. My only problem was that we were playing a very different style from Metallica, but the production of 'Master Of Puppets' was so good that it hurt every time I listened to it.".
The two albums came out around the same time, and I was thinking, 'If we had managed to get that energy, that sound in our production…' I don't know if we would have succeeded, because we are who we are, you are who you are. The microphone is on, it only records what you do. Maybe sonically we wouldn't have been in the same place as them, in terms of guitar and recording techniques.
I honestly think that "Peace Sells" and "Master of Puppets" are the best albums of that entire era.
