Serj Tankian will receive the award on his behalf

This year, singer Chris Cornell released the track "The Promise," which is part of the soundtrack for the film of the same name. Directed by Terry George, the film tells the story of a love triangle that takes place during the Ottoman Empire.

The song reflects on the Armenian genocide that occurred at the time, a cause that Cornell always sought to highlight. Now, the Los Angeles Human Rights Committee will debut the Promise in honor of the musician.

The event will take place on November 14th, and Serj Tankian of System Of A Down will accept the award on behalf of Chris Cornell. The vocalist, in addition to being of Armenian descent, was a consultant in choosing the film's music and participated in the soundtrack with Cornell.

According to a statement from the association, the award will highlight songs, series, and films that speak in favor of equality and justice in an original and relevant way.
