The 1989 classic retains its ballad identity, but Cornell's voice adds a more melodic tone to the song. The cover version was shared on the singer's social media with the following message:

“His birthday seemed like the perfect time to share this and celebrate Chris, his voice, music, story, and art. It’s true what they say about a man not being truly dead as long as his name is remembered… and, through his art, an artist’s soul still illuminates those who still remember him. Releasing a song that was special to Chris keeps a part of him here with us – his heart and soul. His love and his legacy.”
