The ashes of Alexi Laiho , vocalist, guitarist and founder of the Finnish band Children of Bodom , were finally buried, almost a year after the musician's death, reportedly due to a family dispute involving Laiho's widow.
According to Blabbermouth , Laiho's ashes were buried in Malmi Cemetery, located in Helsinki, Finland. The process reportedly took so long due to the intervention of his widow, Kelli Wright-Laiho .
The widow was accused by Anna , Laiho's sister, of abusing "her legal rights as a widow, preventing a mother and father from burying their own son. Her selfish and narcissistic explanation is that she wanted to participate in the funeral and still wants to be present when the ashes are buried, but our family doesn't want this monster around," as she posted on social media.
Apparently, the family reached an agreement on the decision to bury Laiho's ashes last Wednesday, the 8th. "Finally, with extremely mixed emotions, I can announce that the ashes of MY husband, unconditionally and forever loved, were buried yesterday on our 4th wedding anniversary. The Laiho family plot is where he was buried," Kelli communicated .
Laiho's marital situation is confusing, since the musician was still legally married to Kimberly Goss , his ex-wife and bandmate in Sinergy , with whom he maintained a close friendship even after their separation and until the last days of his life.
“On Tuesday, December 7th, I was finally able to have a private memorial service with Aleksi’s ashes and say a proper goodbye before he was buried the following day. I desperately needed this closure and I will never regret making sure I was able to say a final goodbye to him. I am devastated by the unnecessary time this took and for any pain it caused, but I take comfort in knowing that my heart was always in the right place. This ordeal has eaten away at my soul and I am so grateful that it is finally over. I loved him deeply, from the moment we met until his last breath and beyond. A cherished love that resulted in an eternal friendship,” she wrote on social media.
Alexi Laiho passed away on December 29, 2020 , at the age of 41, a victim of the consequences of alcoholism, as reported in the cause of death . The musician left behind an EP recorded with Bodom After Midnight . The project was released in April of this year as a way to artist's last works
