2021 already has a highly anticipated return: Chavelle is back after The North Corridor , the band's last album, released in 2016, with a brand new announcement of their album, titled NIRATIAS (Nothing Is Real and This Is a Simulation) , which arrives on March 5th. Alongside the new release, the band is launching the first single from the project, "Self Destructor," a brand new track to the delight of fans.
Vocalist Pete Loeffler tells Loudwire Nights that despite what the title might suggest, given the chaotic year that was 2020, that the inspiration came from the situations faced by so many last year, however, that is not the case for the track. “The song was actually written in 2019, so it’s a strange coincidence that it fits so well with 2020 being what it was. It’s hard not to find that in everything now.”
“I’ll give you something, though,” he continues. “It focuses on people who deny science, and you can take that. Look at the lyrics and see. It’s aggressive, and I had to learn to play it all over again last year with Sam [Loeffler] , so fingers crossed that we can do it live too.”
Regarding NIRATIAS , Pete explains that much of the album's inspiration relates to space and the fascination he had with the subject during the album's composition. "You have Elon Musk trying to get to Mars and that was completely fascinating to me, so when I write songs, it's kind of what gets me there. As you'll see with the cover, it's kind of space-themed as well."
“I love the idea of the cosmos and I love Carl Sagan and Elon Musk and Neil deGrasse Tyson and all those guys who look beyond and look to the future,” he continues. “Getting off this planet is part of that future if we manage to succeed. It’s funny when you start to delve into the subject and see how difficult it really is. How are you going to deal with radiation on a spaceship for nine months or more than that? It’s fascinating. It even made its way into music.”
