The Rolling Stones will return to the stage starting in September to continue shows postponed due to the pandemic, but Charlie Watts is temporarily absent from the No Filter Tour .
The drummer's absence is justified by medical advice following "a completely successful procedure," which band representatives did not specify. The recovery and rest period coincides with the start of rehearsals for the shows, but Watts is positive. "I'm working hard to get in shape, but I've accepted the experts' advice that it will take time," he commented in a statement.
The shows begin on September 26th and continue across the United States until November 20th, but it is still unknown when the musician will return to the stage. According to band representatives, it is "unlikely" that the drummer will be available for the shows. For now, Steve Jordan will be playing drums.
With the news breaking, bandmates supported Watts' decision. "We're excited to welcome Charlie back as soon as he's fully recovered. Thanks to our friend Steve Jordan for stepping in so we can still play shows for you," wrote Mick Jagger .
“It was a shock to all of us, to say the least, and we wish Charlie a speedy recovery so we can see him as soon as possible,” Keith Richards . “We’ll miss Charlie on tour, but he told me the show must go on! I’m looking forward to his return as soon as he’s recovered,” Ronnie Wood .
In June, Charlie Watts turned 80 years old , 58 of which were spent as the drummer for the Rolling Stones. To commemorate the occasion, Luiz Pimentel published an article on Wikimetal about the musician's legacy – read it here .
