In an article written for The Mirror Rolling Stones manager Sam Cutler wrote a touching tribute to drummer Charlie Watts , who passed away at the age of 80 at the end of August . In his text, Cutler spoke about his time with the Stones and his relationship with Charlie, also commenting that his funeral ceremony was "modest and private".

“It is fitting to mention that Charlie Watts’ funeral – which took place last week in Devon, the place he loved most – was modest and private. This perfectly reflects the man he was and I completely understand the choice that was made. He would have hated the fuss and commotion that involving the public would entail.”

“For me, it is a privilege to remember Charlie and honor him, but not only him, but also Charlie and his wife, Shirley, who married as childhood sweethearts and enjoyed more than 50 happy years together. Their relationship was a dream of harmony, compassion, and mutual respect based on the undeniably strong bonds of their hearts. They showed us how to commit to the dream of love.”

For the remainder of his testimony, Sam Cutler recalled Charlie Watts' sweet and reserved nature, as well as his deep respect for Rolling Stones fans, remembering the time the drummer told him: “Sam, never forget. It's the fans who pay for our dinner.” Read the full article in English here.
