Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith has apologized to Brazilian fans for making a joke about a Flamengo jersey during his visit to Brazil.
In Belo Horizonte, during a drumming workshop, Smith picked up a Flamengo t-shirt that had been thrown on stage and waved it at the audience. Then, the drummer tucked the t-shirt into the back of his pants and pretended to wipe it off, before throwing the t-shirt away.
The joke was met with loud boos from the audience, and Smith has been receiving death threats ever since.
The drummer posted the following statement on his official Facebook page: “I apologize for my inappropriate behavior. My joke about team rivalries went too far. Fans of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo… I apologize.”
