Last Friday, the 27th, Hellyeah released the album Welcome Home , their last work with drummer Vinnie Paul , who passed away in June 2018. Speaking about the release, vocalist Chad Gray revealed that the band wouldn't have made the album if the drummer hadn't recorded his tracks.
In an interview with Loudwire , the frontman commented on the difficulty he felt in continuing the work without his colleague. “Vinnie’s spirit was my muse (...) It was his last work and that inspired me a lot while I was composing. I was constantly thinking about doing something better.”
“We weren’t going to release anything without his drumming. Honestly, I’m very grateful that he was able to complete the recording,” he said. Gray also mentioned that he kept thinking about the drummer the whole time, “like he was our ear.”.
In November, the group will go on tour in the United States promoting the album Welcome Home.
