The band broke up in 2012 after disagreements between the founders
The Mars Volta is a project created by Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala after the end of the band At The Drive-In in the early 2000s.
After six studio albums, the founders experienced disagreements and arguments that led to the group's breakup. The feud lasted a year until the duo joined forces with Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Travis Barker from Blink-182 to form the supergroup Antemasque.
Furthermore, the group also returned with At The Drive-In and released an album in 2017 after seventeen years. Now, Cedric has revealed that there is a possibility of returning with The Mars Volta project.
On his Twitter, Cedric responded to a fan who said that "no band tops The Mars Volta" and asked for the band to reunite. "I wish I had half the confidence that statement has! Thank you for the kind words. We'll be back soon ," he replied.
With no further information released, fans are already expecting the group to reunite soon with an album and tour, which Cedric quickly stated "will take a while before that happens, as there's a lot to do with At The Drive-In".

I appreciate the rabid infection that spreads when anything Volta is discussed, but it'll be a while b4 that ship takes off. Still got a lot of ground to cover with my current family @AtTheDriveIn all I did was praise a fans enthusiasm & casually mention volta being a thing.
