Sepultura: Ceará Civil Police investigates alleged Nazi propaganda and assault at concert.

Man accused of racism and Nazi gestures was beaten by fans of the band.

The case of a man assaulted after allegedly making Nazi gestures and racist insults during a Sepultura in Fortaleza on July 8th will be investigated by the Civil Police of Ceará.

Reports online indicate that the man in question attended the Sepultura show at the Metal Weekend 2023 , held at Complexo do Armazém, and provoked fans present by racially insulting Derrick Green , the band's vocalist, and then making Nazi gestures and salutes. The reaction from the audience was to assault the accused, who was subsequently ejected from the venue by security guards.

According to G1 , police officers spoke with witnesses about the case. The man's identity has not yet been revealed. "The Civil Police advises those who have been harmed to file a police report at any Civil Police unit to provide more details about the case," the police stated in a note.

Police investigations are seeking to determine "the circumstances of a case of bodily harm" and "information indicating that the victim of the assault allegedly committed a crime of racism and Nazi propaganda," according to Carta Capital .

The incident came to public attention through a video published by the Cinco Miligramas de Misantropia , later shared by the Van do Halen .

The recording only shows images of the attack by the headbangers present on the man accused of racism, and an audio account from an unidentified witness. “That crazy guy was there making Nazi gestures, saying 'Hail Hitler,' saying that a band with a black vocalist isn't a band, starting a fight. (…) He left there almost dead, he was beaten,” the woman recounted. Learn more here .
