Castle Rat released their new single, “Serpent,” this Thursday, the 21st. This is the third and final single before the release of their highly anticipated second album, The Bestiary , on September 19th via King Volume Records .
The album was produced by Randall Dunn ( Sunn O , Wolves in the Throne Room , Björk ), mixed by Jonathan Nuñez ( Torche , Restless Spirit ), and recorded at Applehead Studios and Circular Ruin in New York.
In a press release, vocalist and guitarist The Rat Queen ( Riley Pinkerton ) commented on the track:
“With 'SERPENT,' we wanted to explore the iconography of the snake—not just as a symbol of danger or deceit, but as a tragic, misunderstood, and rejected figure. There’s a tantalizing quality to the music; it’s seductive and sympathetic at the same time. The drums are bombastic, the rhythm builds towards an almost march-like quality that’s as danceable as it is headbang-worthy. This time, we invested more in synthesizer textures, adding a layer of sinister elegance to the chaos. It’s gliding, it’s sharp—it’s the snake’s side of the story.”
The medieval fantasy heavy metal band will begin a US venue tour on September 5th in Boston, concluding on October 5th in Brooklyn, New York. Following that, they will embark on a European tour.
