The developer of the game World of Warcraft decided to change the name of the character named after George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher of Cannibal Corpse , due to homophobic comments made by the vocalist years ago.
According to Louder Sound , the non-playable character was named George, the Corpsegrinder, after the singer praised the game in several interviews. It was precisely one of these interviews that led to the character's name being changed due to homophobic statements made against players.
In 2007, Corpsegrinder revealed that World of Warcraft was his "passion" and one of his favorite pastimes when he was off from band activities. When talking about his favorite characters to use, the vocalist used homophobic expressions to criticize the game's Alliance, which consists of a class of "unwavering defenders of justice and duty, who protect the kingdom of Azeroth from any and all aggressors."

“I have a laptop at the hotel for World of Warcraft, I use four accounts [in the game]. I'm not kidding, this game is everything to me. And I don't put any damn homosexual alliance, I don't play with elves or gnomes, [only] Orcs and zombies! Fuck the Alliance, die, you emo assholes,” he declared to defend the Horde players, described by the game as “fervent guardians of freedom and hope, fiercely opposing all who threaten such ideals, including the extremely rigorous Alliance.”
Blizzard Entertainment's decision comes after the developer was sued for allegedly having a toxic work environment, with a culture of discrimination against women and intimidation of employees, among other things. Recently, the game began undergoing a review for hate speech contained within the games, ranging from transphobic and racist slurs to misogynistic language that suggests rape in some situations, as reported by Legião dos Herois . This review process coincides with the removal of problematic content and the introduction of several updates, including reducing the difficulty of farming WoW gold , making the player experience less tedious.
