Erik Rutan replaced Pat O'Brien
Erik Rutan made his debut with Cannibal Corpse on February 17th. He is playing with the band as a temporary replacement for Pat O'Brien , who was arrested in December .
Rutan produced four Cannibal Corpse albums and is one of the most acclaimed guitarists in death metal. He said he found out he would be replacing O'Brien before the holiday season. “So it’s been a lot of work, obviously, learning a Cannibal Corpse headliner set. I’ve been playing guitar eight hours a day and working with the guys. I just learned the last song of the set. It was 15 songs in three or four weeks,” he said.
“But the good thing is, one, I produced four Cannibal Corpse albums. Two, I know all the records because I’m a fan of the band. Three, these guys are like family to me,” he said. “I knew they might need me and, if they did, I would make sure I could be there and help them.”
