Candlemass ' 40th anniversary , the influential group performed an exclusive and unique reunion show with their iconic former vocalist Messiah Marcolin . The show took place last Saturday, September 13th at the Rock Hard Festival in Athens, Greece.
This was Marcolin's first performance with Candlemass in almost 20 years. In May, the band's bassist and founder, Leif Edling , reiterated that the band's reunion show with former vocalist Marcolin would be a one-off event, with no chance of additional dates being added.
To commemorate their 40th anniversary, the band also announced the documentary 9 Lives Of Doom – The Story Of Candlemass , produced by renowned Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund. The documentary will explore the band's career and legacy, as well as their 40-year journey through creativity, collaboration, separations, and reconciliations.
Candlemass also launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the documentary. The release is part of the celebrations for the Swedish doom metal band's 40-year career. Leif Edling commented: "Not all bands reach 40 years and it certainly hasn't been an easy journey."
The band also performed in Brazil on September 7th at the Setembro Negro Festival , at Vip Station in São Paulo. Recently, Candlemass released the music video for their version of the classic "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath." The track, originally released by Black Sabbath , belongs to the EP Black Star , released on May 9th by Napalm Records .
