Scottish authorities suspected kidnapping and a suicide pact
According to The Courier , a group of headbanging friends who decided to go camping became the target of a massive rescue operation on a small Scottish island, following reports that they had gone to the deserted location as part of a suicide pact.
Three adults, their respective children, and a dog sailed to Lochleven Castle to spend two nights in a tent, but someone called the authorities.
Several firefighters, boats, police officers, and even a helicopter were deployed to search for the group. Police even broke into the group's car, parked by the water, to look for a suicide note. Back on the mainland, the three adults were questioned by police, who said they were concerned about a possible kidnapping.
“For some reason, the police received a report that we might be in grave danger and they came to rescue us ,” Panadiotis Filis, a university professor and founder of the Black Metal Brewery, told The Guardian. “They really did a great job rescuing us, the only problem is that we didn’t need rescuing.”
David Henderson, a professor of modern languages and member of the black metal band Nyctopia, told the Scotsman: “They kind of made us feel like we’d done something wrong, but we just like camping, drinking beer and listening to heavy metal.”
David said he suspected the incident happened because the group was dressed in black and some were wearing corpse paint. "Since we were all dressed in black and looked like heavy metal fans, people sometimes assume we're dangerous ," he said.
