The state of California, in the United States, may resume concerts and events in closed venues at full capacity on June 15th. Isolation and vaccination measures are showing promising results for a gradual return to normalcy there.
According to Rolling Stone , Governor Gavin Newsom plans to fully reopen the state on this date, given the downward trend in the number of new COVID-19 cases. Currently, the weekly average is 2,600 new cases, a number quite different from the 42,000 new infections per week in January of this year. The average number of deaths has also seen a significant reduction, with an average of 102 fatalities from the virus in the last week.
Concert halls, cinemas, theaters, and art centers would be included in the reopening, which depends only on the continued decline in the number of infections. Currently, Californian cinemas are operating at 50% capacity, outdoor shows at 67%, and performances in closed venues are suspended.
The reopening of concert venues is scheduled to begin next week, on April 15th, albeit with reduced capacity. Even with the reopening in June, the use of masks will remain mandatory, especially in enclosed spaces.
Some countries have already managed to hold concerts with thousands of people after good management in the fight against the coronavirus. Bands like Midnight Oil and Crowded House have already done local tours, while a rock festival with more than 120,000 people took place in Taiwan. See the list here .
