In September, Dave Mustaine Rust In Peace: The Inside Story of the Megadeth Masterpiece , which tells the story behind the band's fourth studio album. The work marks the beginning of the classic lineup, which, in addition to Mustaine and David Ellefson , included Marty Friedman and the late Nick Menza .
The news excited fans but displeased some people like Robert Bolger, Menza's manager. In a post on the late musician's Facebook page, he wrote: “I'll be short, brief and to the point, without dragging anyone into the lawsuits, exactly as Nick would have wanted! Some of the content published in that book and in the press about Nick is fabricated nonsense to try and sell copies, nothing more, nothing less!”
“The Menza family didn’t even know there was a book in progress, they were invited to comment on something or even offered a copy, I wonder why. Dave and Junior [David Ellefson] were NOT good friends with Nick, no matter what they say now that Nick isn’t here to answer what’s being said about him. Dave wasn’t very nice to Nick at the end, before his death…”
He goes on to say that the book is an “act of betrayal and a major blow to Nick, his family, friends and fans.” “I have all the documented evidence, from emails to text messages that were never published in Nick’s book out of respect for the integrity and legacy of the band. The truth will be shown in two segments of Nick Menza’s official documentary which is in progress.” The post is no longer available on Facebook, likely due to its content criticizing the book.
The drummer passed away on May 21, 2016, at the age of 51, while playing with his band OHM in Los Angeles.
