Courtney Cox , guitarist for Burning Witches, revealed that she has been playing and touring with lower back problems for years.
In an interview on the show Side Jams With Bryan Reesman , the guitarist said: "I have three herniated discs in my lower back, the result of a nasty car accident when I was much younger, so I need to be very careful," she explained.
“I was very afraid to have the surgery, and then they suggested I not do it because I was too young. So, I kind of resigned myself to the situation. In the beginning, I needed an epidural every three months just to survive. But, as I got older, sometimes the herniated disc gets worse if I move or lift something the wrong way. Knock on wood, so far I'm doing well.”
Courtney also commented that there is a surgery that can be done now: “Actually, the other guitarist, Romana , had just had the surgery. She had the same problems I have in my lower back, and we almost had to end our last US tour early because she moved to the wrong side. Then, being in a van for hours on end, she could barely walk. She was in and out of emergency rooms, getting injections. But then, when we finally got home, she was admitted and had back surgery.”
Courtney added about her back. “Obviously, with the strap, you can adjust and move, but with your center of gravity and everything, you have this piece of wood, so you’re constantly trying to fight not to lean forward and always trying to keep your shoulders back… But the show must go on.”
Burning Witches recently released their sixth studio album, Inquisition , through Napalm Records .
