John Burke Shelley , bassist and vocalist of the Scottish heavy metal band Budgie, passed away last Monday, the 10th, at the age of 71.

The news of Shelley's death was given by his daughter, Ela , through her Facebook . "It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my father, John Burke Shelley. He passed away last night in his sleep at Heath Hospital in Cardiff, his hometown. He was 71 years old. Please respect the family during this time."

Burke Shelley founded Budgie in 1967 and released their debut album in 1971. The band opened for Ozzy Osbourne during the European dates of the Blizzard of Ozz in 1980.
