Buddy Guy in Brazil: guitarist bids farewell to the stage at 86 years old.

Guitarist who influenced big names in music bids farewell to the stage with two shows in Brazil.

Buddy Guy is confirmed to perform at the Best of Blues and Rock festival in São Paulo in June. His performances on June 3rd and 4th will be his last in Brazil.

Since February 24th, Buddy Guy, now 86 years old, has been saying goodbye to fans in the United States before coming to Brazil with the Damn Right Farewell Tour . The guitarist's last and 34th album, Blues Don't Lie, was released last October, and Buddy Guy didn't plan for it to be his last, but reality imposed itself on the musician.

Who is Buddy Guy?

Buddy Guy was born in Lettsworth, Louisiana, on July 30, 1936, and taught himself to play guitar early in his youth.

He began playing in clubs in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as a teenager and in 1957 went to Chicago. There he was discovered by the iconic Muddy Waters , who helped him find work at the 708 Club, where he met other legendary bluesmen B.B. King and Willie Dixon . In 1960-67, he recorded several hits for the Chess label, including “Leave My Girl Alone” and “Stone Crazy.” He also worked as a sideman for artists such as Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter , and Koko Taylor.

It wasn't until younger white musicians – including Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Keith Richards , and Jeff Beck – recognized his work that he became famous.

In addition to his work as a musician, Guy owned two renowned blues clubs in Chicago – the Checkerboard Lounge (1972–85) and Buddy Guy's Legends (since 1989). In 2012 he published the autobiography When I Left Home: My Story , written with David Ritz .

Achievements

An influence on names like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan , the artist won eight Grammy Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award, in addition to the National Medal of Arts and Kennedy Center Honors. Guy ranked 23rd on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time . His song "Stone Crazy" ranked 78th on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 greatest guitar songs of all time.

He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
