A global heavy metal icon is just one of the bands playing at the next edition, which takes place in November in São Paulo.
In the early 1990s, the enigmatic and ultra-heavy Brujeria emerged with their provocative, acidic Spanish lyrics, laden with social criticism that remains relevant today. The band's immense power, coupled with their unique charisma, has endured for decades, and Brujeria is now a vital force in heavy metal music. It's no coincidence that they are the first confirmed act for the new edition of Kool Metal Fest , a traditional event that in past editions has featured heavyweights such as Napalm Death, Suffocation, Violator, Krisiun, Ratos de Porão , and others. In 2019, the event will take place on November 10th at Carioca Club (São Paulo).
Brujeria will headline the festival; however, other big names in Brazilian metal will be announced soon.
The 2019 edition has a mission: to be as explosive and heavy as the previous edition in 2016, when the stage was literally broken in half! At that festival, the band Possuído Pelo Cão smashed the stage during their set. The high-standard structure of Carioca Club, one of the main concert venues in São Paulo, will allow for another Kool Metal Fest packed with attractions, in addition to the perfect – and safe – space for tireless and insane circle pits.
Regarding the festival's main attraction, Brujeria is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2019. Formed in 1989 by Americans of Latin descent, the band's practice of concealing the musicians' real names, fueling rumors about their faces, and addressing controversial issues involving illegal activities helped create a mystique around them. They quickly gained popularity, had music videos on MTV, and signed a contract with Roadrunner Records.
Always led by vocalist Juan Brujo , Brujeria has had numerous lineups, featuring top-tier heavy metal musicians. Today, it also includes Fantasma (vocals, bass), Bruja Encabronada (female vocals), Aa Kuernito (guitar), Hongo (guitar), Pinche Peach (vocals and samplers), El Criminal (guitar), and Hongo Jr (drums).
