Bruce Springsteen and The Killers released their highly anticipated collaboration on Wednesday, the 16th. After several weeks of mystery surrounding the artists, the partnership was shared in the form of a new version of "Dustland".
The track, originally released as "The Dustland Fairytale" on the band's 2008 album Day & Age , features an even more sensitive and moving reinterpretation in Springsteen's vocals. A video to accompany the new release has also been released and you can watch it below.
The conversation, according to lead singer Brandon Flowers , began after Springsteen messaged him shortly after the start of the pandemic. "I had to message his son to confirm it was really his father messaging me," he recounted in a social media post.
“A Dustland Fairytale” was written during a difficult period in Flowers' life. His mother was in the midst of a long battle with brain cancer. “It was a way of trying to understand my father, who was a mystery to me.” He also says that the song helped him grieve after the loss of his mother two years later.
Springsteen, with his impeccable storytelling, has been bringing stories like these to his music since the beginning of his career, and here, in "Dustland," he shows once again how brilliant his voice and interpretation are. Listen to the track below.
