Little stands in Bruce Dickinson when it comes to his love of music. After recording Book of Souls (2015) while suffering from a tumor at the back of his tongue , the singer has now recorded part of Senjutsu , Iron Maiden to be released in September, while using crutches.
In 2019, while the band was already secretly working on the new album, Dickinson ruptured his Achilles tendon, but that wasn't enough to stop him – he states in an interview with Kerrang! that he continued to frequent the studio using crutches and a walking boot.
“I injured [the tendon] at the end of April [2019]. Thirty-six hours later I was on an operating table having my leg stitched up. And then, twenty-four hours after the operation, I was in the studio, singing, with my leg the size of a balloon,” recounts the Iron Maiden vocalist.
“I wore the boot for a month, took it off, and then had two weeks of rehabilitation. After that, I had four months to try to learn to walk again before the tour. That tour in the Americas and South America, all those gigantic shows, I couldn't walk properly, so I just pretended,” he reveals.
The act of trying to compensate with one leg eventually had its consequences. Due to the wear and tear, Bruce Dickinson needed to undergo hip surgery and have a five-and-a-half-centimeter titanium plate inserted in his leg. Currently, after the most difficult period has passed, the musician is focused on promoting Iron Maiden's new projects, such as the new song " The Writing On The Wall ," which has kept fans entertained searching for the various Easter eggs scattered throughout its music video.
