The musician says that many people were sexist regarding the illness
Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson spoke to iNews about being diagnosed with cancer in December 2014.
Bruce explains in detail in his autobiography, What Does This Button Do , what the treatment process was like, from the radiation to the emotional problems he suffered.
He admits that his reason for sharing his story is genuine. He simply wants to help raise awareness about the disease.
The vocalist also commented that he was upset by the repercussions of the fact that his cancer was caused by HPV. Many said that the musician contracted the disease by performing oral sex on numerous women.
“I was like, ‘Seriously?’ If your wife or daughter had cervical cancer, would you go around telling everyone she was promiscuous? It’s shameful. But because it’s men, people think they can make jokes and it’s okay.”
When talking about the treatment, he recalls meeting other patients who suffered significant side effects: “The truth is that the treatment itself is extremely painful. I spoke with many who went through the same thing and underwent the same procedure as me, and although they all had a good outcome, one or two went through horrible moments, much worse than I did .
