He says that Iron Maiden was considered a punk band
In a recent interview with the Irish Times , Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson revealed his opinion on the band's first two albums.
"Number Of The Beast was the album that truly introduced the band to the world. The first two albums were very good, a success.".
Killers, in particular, is my favorite. The sound of that album is the sound that Iron Maiden's first album should have had.
Actually, Steve Harris [founder and bassist of the band] wanted Martin Birch, the producer of Killers, to produce the first album, but they didn't talk to him because they thought he wouldn't be interested.
Steve always regretted the production of the first album. Ironically, people thought Iron Maiden was punk because the first album sounds like crap. We should never have sounded like a punk band. Steve hated punk. I didn't hate punk, but at the same time, it was never a big thing for me.”
