In an interview with the English newspaper Wales Online, Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson spoke about the differences between his two jobs, as a vocalist and as a pilot. According to the musician, the two activities are opposites:
“The satisfaction of piloting a plane is doing the job, and the satisfaction of performing live is external, it’s seeing all the people looking at you. As a pilot, it’s all internal. If you have passengers, nobody says, ‘Wow! Wasn’t that amazing?’ They’re thinking about the rest of their day. Your job as a pilot is to deliver people safely, to be invisible. That’s really cool to me because it’s the opposite of what I do when I sing.”
