Lead singer says Iron Maiden doesn't care about fame

Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson expressed his animosity towards Punk Rock. According to the musician, members of Punk bands, who don't know how to play their instruments, are envious of Heavy Metal musicians.

When asked why Heavy Metal is considered an inferior art form in music, Dickinson replied:

“The closest the art world ever came to accepting Metal was with Punk. The reason they supported Punk is because it was crap, and they supported the crap because they could control it. They could say, ‘Yeah, we’re Punks, so we can snub everyone. We don’t know how to play our instruments, but that means we can call all this performance art.’ At the same time, the members of Punk bands just laughed at the mainstream thinking, ‘What a bunch of idiots. Thanks, give us our money and we’ll go out, despise you, and have sex with some girls.’ But what they really wanted to do was be in a Metal band surrounded by porn stars.”

"Genesis and Yes were crap," says Sex Pistols bassist.

Dickinson also said that he doesn't care about fame, citing the difference between Iron Maiden and other bands: “We are obsessed with the audience. That's the difference between Maiden and other bands. I don't care about being famous. Fame is the excrement of creativity, it's the resulting garbage, a byproduct. People think that this excrement is what matters, and it's not. It's the creativity and the audience there, in the moment.”
