Bruce Dickinson , in a conversation with the website Loudwire during the launch event for his comic book The Mandrake Project on January 16th, revealed: "There's a guitar solo – my first recorded guitar solo in history and probably also the last."

Bruce usually uses guitar and piano in writing his compositions, but prefers that the instruments be played by other musicians on recordings. However, he did play piano on the song "Empire of the Clouds" from the album The Book of Souls, released by Iron Maiden in 2015. But when questioned about his guitar contributions on this new project, the vocalist jokingly says: " Roy Z made me, the bastard, he made me play guitar."

As published on the Loudwire , Dickinson continues: “I said I’d show him the riffs and the chords and everything, and he said, ‘Yeah, cool. Well, you do it!’ And I said, ‘Well, yeah, but I’m not very good, so if you do it, it’ll be much faster,’ and he said, ‘No, no, you do it.’ And I said, ‘Okay, just for the demo, right? Just for the demos.’” And he concludes: “So we went to the demos. Many of them were replaced, but some parts he kept, sneakily, without me noticing.”

Bruce Dickinson's guitar solo can be heard on the track "Face in the Mirror," the penultimate song on the album The Mandrake Project , scheduled for release on March 1, 2024.
