During an interview with La Claque FNAC , Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson said that Senjutsu is one of his favorite albums by the band.
Released in September of this year, the album marked Maiden's first work in six years. Senjutsu was recorded in 2019 in Paris with colleague and producer Kevin Shirley and was co-produced by bassist Steve Harris.
“It’s always a thrill to release a new Iron Maiden album,” he said (via Blabbermouth ). “While we were making the album, we thought it was a really good album. But that was almost two and a half, three years ago. So now we need to stop and see if that’s really what it was. It’s one of my favorite albums. And for that to happen after 17 albums is really cool.”
Speaking about the composition and recording process of the album, Bruce said he'd like to say it was all very well organized, but that wasn't the case. “We’d arrive and ask, ‘Hey, does anyone have any ideas?’ and then Steve would say, ‘I have one. I have a song called ‘Senjutsu.’ What do you think of a samurai Eddie?’ and then we’d be like, ‘Wow, that’s cool, how come we’ve never done that before?’”
Senjutsu reached the third position on the Billboard 200 , achieving more than past albums by the group such as Powerslave and The Number Of The Beast.
