The tribute is due to the singer's support for the city

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has been named an honorary citizen of Sarajevo for his support of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Bosnian War, which took place between 1992 and 1995.

The tribute was presented by Concept Media to the city council, claiming that Dickinson's performances in the city in December 1994 "gave people hope" by demonstrating that they "were not alone.".

Dickinson was transported to the city in a humanitarian aid bus as the final part of his world tour to promote the album Balls of Picasso , released that same year. The story of the singer's visit was told in the documentary Scream for Me Sarajevo and in his autobiography What Does This Button Do ?.

The ceremony will officially take place on November 25th. The award is given annually to a foreigner for their support of the city of Sarajevo, as well as for their advocacy of democracy, humanism, and tolerance.
