The first time Dickinson was in Sarajevo, the city was isolated from the world, terrorized by shootings, bombings, famine, and a lack of electricity and water. The musician and his then-solo band, Skunkworks, performed in the city amidst this context, and the significance of the experience is contained in Scream For Me Sarajevo .

The book features images from the historic performance, as well as testimonials from people who attended the show and made it happen. “ We weren’t protected, we didn’t have a plan, and the gunshots were real. But we went anyway ,” Dickinson recalled in her autobiography, What Does This Button Do?.The show was immense, intense. Probably the biggest in the world at that time, for the audience and for us. It changed the way I saw life, death, and other human beings.”

The Bosnian War took place between April 1992 and December 1995 in the region of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The armed conflict involved the former Yugoslavia (now Serbia and Montenegro), Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia, and was caused by a complex combination of political and religious factors that emerged after the end of the Cold War and the fall of communism in Yugoslavia.
