Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden Heavy Metal Truants cycling circuit , an annual event held to raise funds for children's charities in a project entirely created by metalheads.
“Metal as a community has a long history of doing very good things. And the reason people don’t know much about it is because we’re too busy just doing those things,” Dickinson commented in a video for the campaign, in which he shows off his skill with the bicycle.
Heavy Metal Truants is a foundation created by Rod Smallwood Maiden 's manager , and Alexander Milas , former editor-in-chief of Metal Hammer , in 2012, with the aim of raising funds for four children's welfare services in the United Kingdom. The funds raised annually are divided equally among the selected NGOs. Anyone can make a donation on the official website and help reach the goal of one billion euros raised.
This year, the cycling circuit will take place virtually, but with real-world activities and distances, between May 24th and June 4th. In addition to the Iron Maiden frontman, the event is open to UK residents who register on the website, with confirmed participation from other bands and members of the music community, as well as fans, in different modalities: walking, running, rowing, and other sports enthusiasts can register to complete a physical challenge of 35 miles on foot (or 1,000 miles by bicycle) over a 12-day period.
