In an interview with the French publication Brut. , Bruce Dickinson stated that he doesn't care about the term 'Rock Star'. The vocalist said he feels uncomfortable with that label, both after more than 40 years as the frontman of Iron Maiden and in his solo career.
“What is a ‘Rock Star’? I mean, what is that?” Bruce questioned, as transcribed via blabbermouth.net . “It’s really nothing. It’s just a media and social media invention and any picture you take, if you’re popular. It’s really nothing. If you say ‘I’m a storyteller,’ that’s something.”
The vocalist concluded by saying, “I don’t have bodyguards, I don’t drive limousines. I use the subway or walk, I don’t own a car, I use a bicycle and the subway in London or here (in Paris) all the time.”
It's no secret that Dickinson is known for his simple habits. Bruce was spotted on the London Underground in 2013, and he practices other professions besides being the vocalist of one of the biggest metal bands on the planet. As is well known, Bruce Dickinson has been a pilot, public speaker, screenwriter, radio host, fencer, master brewer, among other skills.
Bruce Dickinson claims that Eddie is the true 'Rock Star'.
Also in that interview, Bruce mentioned that the band's mascot, Eddie , the skull that appears on all Iron Maiden album covers, is "what defined us – because when you think Iron Maiden, you think Eddie, even though I'm the singer, you don't automatically think of me, you remember Eddie, which is good. Because it goes back to the earlier question of being a rock star – we have Eddie, so we don't have to be the rock star. We don't need to overdose and be found lying outside some Paris nightclub and go to rehab and have all that stuff and have like six girlfriends, porn stars and all that bullshit, which has nothing to do with music. We have Eddie. And Eddie is more radical and cool than any other 'rock star'."
Bruce, who has a successful and established career with Iron Maiden, recently released his new solo work, The Mandrake Project . Bruce will be in Brazil with the album's promotional tour .
