Bruce Dickinson commented on the increase in ticket prices for concerts. According to the Iron Maiden, the band tries to keep prices affordable to avoid only wealthy people occupying the best seats at the shows.
During the pre-premiere of the documentary Iron Maiden: Burning Ambitionin London, Bruce Dickinson stated that touring costs have increased in recent years. However, this does not justify charging exorbitant prices to the public [transcription via Blabbermouth].
“The problem is that costs keep rising and all that. But that’s no excuse for charging absurd prices for tickets. We always try to keep our prices below average because, frankly, we don’t want a bunch of rich people in front of the stage. We want the real fans there, and they don’t always have a lot of money. So, it’s very important for us, as a band, to have that possibility. We want young people at the shows, and they don’t have much money. They’ll get money from their dad. But, nowadays, money is tight. So, it’s important to try to keep ticket prices within reasonable limits.”
Some of the prices people pay are insane
In 2024, Bruce Dickinson stated to ATMósferas that the music industry has changed drastically in recent years. According to the singer, musicians receive less money for their work, while DJs and social media phenomena achieve much higher earnings with smaller structures.
“The important thing is to try to maintain, on the one hand, the right type of ticket at the right price. So, by that, I mean the right type of ticket, I mean the front-of-stage tickets, which everyone says should be the most expensive. Actually, no. They should be the most reasonably priced tickets, because the people who go to the front of the stage are real fans, people who are children, people who don't have money to spend a fortune, but these are the people who need to be at the front; they are the ones who will keep this music alive. And then there are people who might be fans, but want to bring their spouse and don't want to get too hot and sweaty and all that. So, there are some seats up there or something like that, which they will choose, and those have different prices.”.
He continued: “And some of the prices people pay, well, some of the prices people pay, to me, are insane. I would never pay that price, but on the other hand, I’m probably not a fan of that particular artist. Whoever is, maybe they think it’s worth it. I mean, certainly, at my shows, we always try to keep ticket prices within normal limits. And the same goes for Iron Maiden.”
