During an interview with Qobuz , Bruce Dickinson was asked if he plans to release a new studio album at the end of The Mandrake Project , just as he did with the beginning of the story, with the album of the same name.
In response, Dickinson said (via BLABBERMOUTH.NET ): “That’s something I don’t know. Of course it’s a possibility, but I’m not going to force myself to think, ‘Oh, I need to do this because it’s the end of three years.’ If it happens naturally, then great. I’m not going to sit down and do nothing. But what I’ve learned in this process is that when you’re going to do something, do something that’s really good quality. Instead of doing everything half-heartedly, do something really good.”
The story has been in development for a decade by the Iron Maiden and tells of humanity's battle with immortality. The project will have 12 episodes and a duration of three years.
The comic book The Mandrake Project is written by Tony Lee and illustrated by Staz Johnson . It is being published by Z2 Comics and is described as "a dark and adult story of power, abuse, and the struggle for identity, set against the backdrop of scientific and occult genius."
