After commenting on a possible sequel to Bohemian Rhapsody in 2021, Brian May recently revealed that developing a second musical biopic is tempting. In 2019, the band's music video director also mentioned that this possibility was being discussed.
“We’re talking about it. I was proud of it and the people who played us were simply phenomenal. It’s very tempting to do a sequel. It would be worth working with those guys again,” he told The Daily Star .
Queen 's guitarist even has an idea for the script of the supposed sequel: " Bohemian Rhapsody reached its climax at Live Aid and I suppose that implicitly Freddie began to deal with AIDS, but a lot happened between the end of the film and the end of Queen's glory days."
Brian May concluded the conversation by talking about the significance of the tribute to Freddie Mercury . “I loved the fact that we were able to do this for Freddie. It really means a lot and I felt we did it the right way and with the right spirit. Of course, we were represented in the film because we were a group, but it was really all about Freddie, and I think we did him well.”
A close friend of Mercury, however, stated that the vocalist would not want a sequel to the film .
Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 2018 and quickly became the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time , reaching nearly $1 billion at the box office . The project also won 2 Golden Globes and 4 Oscars , including Best Actor for Rami Malek .
