Recognition came for defending badgers
Queen guitarist Brian May has been named "Person of the Year" by the environmental advocacy organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
The nomination came as a result of May's fight against the unfair treatment of badgers. The species is at risk of extinction after farmers were granted permission to kill them to prevent tuberculosis in livestock.
Studies released by the group founded by May, Team Badger, indicate that the animal is not responsible for spreading the disease, and that extermination is unjust. According to May, badgers are being used as scapegoats and the disease is transmitted through the livestock themselves.
In a statement, PETA announced that May has always been persistent in defending badgers, and that her tenacity and boldness have inspired people everywhere.
