Brian May defends Yungblud from criticism and draws a comparison to Freddie Mercury.

The guitarist was impressed by a cover of "We Are The Champions" performed by the young Briton.

Last Tuesday, the 20th, Brian May , from Queen , used his Instagram to repost a video of the young British singer YUNGBLUD doing a cover of "We Are The Champions" for Apple Music.

In the caption, May expressed his admiration for Yungblud's vocals and revealed that he immediately started following the musician on social media. "Every now and then, when you're casually scrolling through your feed, you find something that makes you say 'WOW'. And you have to hit the 'follow' button. FULL of class," the guitarist wrote.

Shortly after, however, Brian May had to return to his post and add a caption to defend Yungblud from the malicious comments of more conservative Queen fans. Besides reprimanding the internet users, the guitarist also compared the public's reception of the young British singer to the trajectory of Freddie Mercury .

“Well, this really opened my eyes,” she wrote. “I’m quietly smiling at the ‘nooooo’ comments. I clearly remember this same kind of mockery being directed at Freddie when we started Queen. As soon as I see someone who can provoke such strong reactions – both positive and negative – I’m sure that person is a true star.”

“But keep throwing tantrums if you need to – maybe it will make you feel better. I think the rest of us will keep an open mind,” Brian concluded.
