Last year, Matt Pike , of Sleep and High on Fire fame , announced his first solo project, Pike vs. the Automaton . In December, the musician released the first sample of the work, "Alien Slut Mum".
Now, Pike has released the second single from the project, which features a special guest appearance by Brent Hinds of Mastodon . “Land” is inspired by the blues, while the first single leans towards a sludge-metal sound.
Pike explained that the idea for the track came to him when he returned from the tour. “It’s about depression and dealing with the difficult things in life. After it was finished, I played it for Brent Hinds, who had come to Portland to play with me, and he added this kind of Billy Gibbons-esque .”
Pike vs. the Automaton , the first work from Pike's solo project, will be released on February 18th.
