Brent Hinds of Mastodon

Brent Hinds expresses his desire to record a country album with Mastodon.

"I don't know if our audience would like it..."

Mastodon 's lead singer and guitarist , Brent Hinds , is known for bringing a humorous tone to his interviews, but joke or not, he confessed his desire to record a country album with Mastodon during a conversation with the podcast Let There Be Talk .

Hinds has already ventured into the world of country music by playing with the group West End Motel , but this time, he hopes to bring all the members of Mastodon along for the ride.

“I would love to dress up as a cowboy and play beautiful, hollow guitars,” he told host Dean Delray. Despite this desire, Brent admitted that the change in sound might not please fans: “I don’t know if our audience would like it (…), but we want to put together a different discography, one that no one has ever done before, and explore all genres.”

He also reveals that drummer Brann Dailor would do a great job, “Everyone knows we can do heavy metal and that Dailor plays incredibly, but nobody knows he can do other things incredibly well too. He’s a great artist and musician. But he’s not a big fan of country.”

It is not yet known what the sound of the next studio album will be like, but Dailor confirmed that the band will take some time off in 2019 to write and record material for the successor to Emperor of Sand (2017).
