The album Ember was released in April.

Breaking Benjamin vocalist Benjamin Burnley said that the album Ember is likely to be the band's heaviest. “There are things that we have on all Breaking Benjamin albums that are heavy, and I think we have a bit more of that on this one,” he explained. “And also light things – there’s a song called ‘The Dark Of You’ that’s really, really calm and melodic. But I think we do whatever the music calls for.”

He continued, “These guys I have in the band now, when I did Dark Before Dawn in 2015, I already had 95% of it written before they joined. I wrote practically the whole thing during the hiatus. When they arrived, it was kind of already finished. Ember was the first one they were in from the beginning – when there was no material.”

"There are songs that I don't even know how to play, because I only wrote the vocals. So I was able to take a step back – thankfully, because I did practically all the work on the previous albums. I never had anyone with the mind for songwriting."

Benjamin added: “I mean, I’ve always played with really wonderful musicians. But a musician and a songwriter are really different things. And we didn’t mix that well. These guys now send me a whole song ready, without vocals – or sometimes with vocals – but the rest is done. All I have to do is put my lyrics or something like that. And it’s really great to have that. So, this record is heavier because that’s where the songs they brought really grabbed me.”
