Erica Mindegaard, from Maranhão, has been the victim of defamation, racism, and xenophobia on the internet after people believed she cheated on her husband with Axl Rose.
The story began when a video went viral showing Erica with the Guns N' Roses in a bar in Copenhagen, Denmark – watch it here. Acquaintances of Erica suggested she was cheating on her Danish husband, and later a Brazilian website claimed that Erica had, in fact, cheated on her husband.
“At no point did I say that I had claimed to have cheated on my husband. I didn't say that. The whole story was distorted and caused a lot of emotional distress for my family, for my husband and my children, as well as for the church my mother attends in Maranhão,” said Erica.
After the case gained attention, Erica says she began receiving numerous attacks from Brazilians on her social media, including messages with racist and xenophobic content. Her family members were also targeted, especially her husband, who was called a "cuckold.".
“My husband was with me at the bar, too. (…) Nowadays, if there are family photos on my social media, there are absurd comments. They say things like 'that's the Danish cuckold', 'poor woman from the Northeast, who should go back'... Monkey emojis …”, she stated to g1.
“This is a request for an investigation against all these people. We will seek all compensation to repair the moral and material damages suffered by her, taking legal action in both the civil and criminal spheres,” said Erik Moraes, president of the commission.
