Brazilian Gustavo da Mata recently went viral on TikTok after surprising users with a cover of "Knockin' On Heaven's Door." His version of the Guns N' Roses song revealed a striking similarity between his voice and that of Axl Rose .
“A friend secretly filmed me and posted it without telling me, but it went viral very quickly. I didn't imagine this much repercussion, but I'm very happy. People commented that I have a voice just like Axl's, but I worked very hard for it. I trained for 10 years, every day, locked in my room,” he told G1 .
The video of the Brazilian and his friends celebrating Christmas in Dublin already has over 1 million views and numerous comments from people incredulous at his voice, which they say is "better than Axl's nowadays".
Gustavo works in construction, but music has always been his dream job. Guns N' Roses has been a part of his life since adolescence. "I don't know if it was a kind of escape or a way to let off steam, but I started singing Guns N' Roses songs every day for almost five hours straight. I remember singing alone, closing my eyes and visualizing a crowd in the audience," he said.
When he formed a band at age 20, the Brazilian's voice began to be recognized as similar to Axl's. However, he states: "I decided to sing like him, but be myself." Currently, he is the leader of the Guns N' Roses Tribute .
