That's right, there's a monster in the Amazon that inspired the band Iced Earth .
Actually, that's more or less it; the song is called "Dragon's Child," and it's on the album Horror Show , where the theme of all the lyrics is about some old horror story or tale.
This song is a tribute to the 1954 American film, which is called Creature from the Black Lagoon , and which in Brazil was titled The Monster of the Black Lagoon.
The film is considered a classic of horror in cult cinema.
It tells the story of a group of geologists who went on an expedition to the Amazon and discovered some fossils from the Devonian period.
In addition to the fossils, they also discovered a creature that resembles a humanoid with reptile-like features, most likely from the same family as the fossils found.
The creature is an amphibian, and although its natural habitat is in water, it can breathe and walk on the surface.
"Since the beginning of time, he has been here.
The forgotten son, testing all our fears.
A mistake of nature, which seems to have no end."
The creature is attacked, and in defending itself, it ends up killing two of the researchers who were on the expedition.
After that, the group of researchers embarks on a journey to a place called Black Lagoon , to try and capture the "monster".
"Centuries ago, many tribes knew the story
of the men who did not return when they went there.
And those who did return cannot describe what they saw.
Their hair turned white, and they went mad."
The monster is captured, but manages to escape, and in self-defense it captures one of the researchers, taking her hostage to its cave.
But he is found again, this time in his cave, where he is shot and flees to the Amazon , where he sinks lifeless.
The film also spawned two sequels, and will most likely get a remake soon.
Another work that drew inspiration from the 1950s classic was the film The Shape of Water , directed by Guillermo del Toro .
According to him, he always wanted to see the monster and the protagonist end up together. Fortunately, his feature film managed to give the director the happy ending he so desired.
Editor's note: Wikimetal and its collaborators disapprove of any and all acts and speech of violence. Therefore, we condemn the actions that resulted in the invasion of the US Capitol . We understand Iced Earth's role in the metal scene, and for that reason, relevant musical content continues to have a place on the portal..
